Second Chances

Every new day offers a new start, new chances, reasons to begin, reasons to continue, reasons to persevere.

Each sunset is a reminder of this.

No two sunsets look the same, just as no two days are the same, we shape and mould each one in a unique way, never to be replied twice.

Contemplating Tomorrow

Seize moments, grab opportunities, have faith, be courageous, pursue your goals, live your dreams. Each sunset symbolises the promise of a new tomorrow, so start as you mean to go on.

Head In The Clouds

Cloudy skies are not always gloomy.

Clouds are some of the most beautiful things you can rest your eyes on.

Sunsets touch the soul, warm the heart, encourage reflection and thought, remind us of the beauty this world holds and the ceaseless awe and wonder we feel each time we see it.

Reflecting On Today, Heading for Tomorrow

Start now, today, why wait until tomorrow to start as you mean to go on?

A quote I came across sums it up with ” excuses will always be there for, opportunities will not”

Make that change, take those steps, build that momentum and keep it going.

You will thank yourself someday.

Sometimes the shapes of the clouds look like a picture in the sky – can you see the dragon?

Flex it: Gorilla Tripod

Have you tried shopping for a camera tripod online recently?

There are so many different designs, makes  and model – it just gets a bit too much.

After a persuasive travel vlog I happened to stumble upon, the Gorilla Tripod caught my eye and I was sold.

I bought the version designed for a compact camera via Amazon.

Well I must say, I’m rather impressed.

It has ultra bendy flexible legs that can bend into all sorts of wonderful contortions.

20160622_182313

For all the ‘kids at heart’ the Gorilla looks (and can function like) a toy; you can actually play with it, fact.

Twist and bend its legs until your heart’s content.

It can be placed, wrapped, twisted round, hooked onto and lodged into all sorts of nooks crannies, awkward places and positions.

Its a tad more discreet that your average photographer type tripod, and nifty for placing on a table, etc without looking like your setting up a film production set.

Its light, and easy to throw in your bag without fear of breakage.

20160622_182716

The Gorilla weighs next to nothing.

I couldn’t help having a go with my SLR camera to see if it would hold up. Well it did – just about in a triangular three leg position. Once I tried to twist or manoeuvre it to the side, backward or forward, it promptly collapsed.

There is also an SLR version of the Gorilla if need be.

Sail Away: Goodbye Carriacou

I was sad to leave Carriacou and would have liked to have spent longer there – I would definitely like to return for a dedicated holiday in the future.

A peaceful, battery recharging holiday.

Having flown to the island, sailing back to mainland Grenada by ferry was a welcome contrast.

The sunsets along the way were well worth the long, breezy choppy journey.

Crocodile Spotting, Black River Safari Cruise: Jamaica, St Elizabeth

Stuck for something to do on your Jamaica holiday?

Black River in St Elizabeth is one of the longest rivers in Jamaica and very popular with tourists for the close up sighting  and feeding of crocodiles at a leisurely pace.

Just board the boat and have your camera ready!

YS Falls Waterfall: St Elizabeth, Jamaica

When it comes to Jamaica, we hear about ‘Dunns River Falls’ to no end.  It’s the ‘bees knees’ according to all the brochures and travel guides.

Here is a lesser well advertised waterfall, in a lovely lush park  – YS Falls in the parish of Saint Elizabeth.

You can go swimming , have a picnic, try the zip lines or just find a chill spot and relax.

The water is a stunning deep blue, the camera never captures the full beauty – you need to go and see it for yourself.

If you’re visiting  Jamaica anytime soon, add this to your list of places to go.

Riu Club Negril Hotel: Bloody Bay Jamaica

In a nutshell. This hotel was clean, spacious, generously catered for food, with a good range of entertainment each evening.

Rooms are spread over four blocks along the beach strip

The holiday reps are very hyper, all day, but they work exceptionally hard  – especially with all the entertainment routines they put on throughout the day and evening.

After being let down with some of the tours we booked via the hotel tour reps and Thomson rep (i.e. the tour operators didn’t bother turning up to pick us up on the mornings we booked for – and any member of staff you spoke to wanted to wash their hands of the problem), I would strongly recommend you simply hire a return taxi to take you to the places you want to visit.

There was too much food to mention. Anyone who complains about the food, well I’m not sure what they eat at home but there was everything under the sun at this hotel, including pizza and chips for the home sick 🙂

Margaritaville Negril: Jamaica, on the Seven Mile Beach Strip.

Margaritaville is a 5 minute drive down Norman Manley Boulevard from the Riu Negril resorts. Some hotels, like Riu Negril, will call the Margaritaville bus to come and pick you up from your hotel and the drop you off again at scheduled times throughout the day/evening.

Here you will find miles of beach to wander, as well as traders and market stalls selling all sorts of touristy souvenirs.

Beware though, the sellers are quite persistent in their ‘demands’ for you to look at what they have for sale.

There is a bar/restaurant in the main entrance area and various excursions depart from here on a daily basis.

Zookki Essential Accessories Bundle Kit GoPro Hero 4 3+ 3 2 1 Black Silver and SJ4000 SJ5000 SJ6000, Sports Action Camera Accessories Set

I received this kit as a free product in return for customer review.

Firstly, I figured the Zookki kit was probably adaptable to any GoPro-like action camera.

I’ve yet to give my action camera, the Lynec 1080P action camera a thorough test run (including underwater) and will review this at a later date; in the meantime I’ll be trying my action cam out with the Zookki Essentials kit for this blog.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You get a lot of kit for your money in this bundle, much of which will double up as spare parts (screws and adapter pieces) for things you already have, or useful items to experiment with.

All the reviews I’ve read for this kit are positive, which makes for a confident start.
1 x ZOOKKI Head Belt Strap Mount
1 x ZOOKKI Shock-proof Carrying Case
1 x ZOOKKI Chest Belt Strap Mount
1 x ZOOKKI Extendable Handle Monopod
1 x ZOOKKI Wrist Strap Mount
1 x ZOOKKI 360 degree Rotary Clip Mount
1 x ZOOKKI Bike Handlebar Holder Mount
1 x ZOOKKI Wrist Strap(Does not include remote control)
1 x ZOOKKI Car Suction Cup Mount(7cm-diameter base)
1 x ZOOKKI Floating Handle Grip
1 x ZOOKKI Three-way Adjustable Pivot Arm
2 x ZOOKKI Tripod Mount Adapter
2 x ZOOKKI Surface J-Hook Buckle
2 x ZOOKKI Surface Quick Release Buckle
2 x ZOOKKI Adapters(1 x long + 1 x short)
4 x ZOOKKI screws Bolts(3 x long + 1 x short)
2 x ZOOKKI Flat & 2 x Arc Mounts
10 x ZOOKKI adhesive pad(5 for Flat & 5 for curved mounts)
12 x ZOOKKI Anti-fog Inserts
Free Gift For You: 2 x ZOOKKI Safety buckles

….and breath!!

More bits and pieces

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I might use the case as a main camera case for hand luggage  – with just the moist needed bits including batteries, charger/usb lead, spare memory cards. The rest can go in my hold luggage.

MONOPOD

CHEST STRAP

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Chest strap fits very comfortably and is fully adjustable
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I struggled with the attachments to get the camera to stay upright whilst attached

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I ended up using a swivel/tripod attachment but the camera ends up hanging upside down once you let go (it swings downwards), so you end up having to flip your footage round via when editing afterwards. Now this could be due to the fact that this kit isn’t designed for the Lynec 1080P action camera (though everything else/all the pieces seem to fit it perfectly).  Not sure if I’ll be using this strap, but it is rather good if you want to film discretely or keep your hands free for other things.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Filming upside down as you can see….though easily remedied when editing. When attached the right way up, it leans downward and won’t stay up straight.

SUCTION CUP

The suction base is really easy to use once you figure out!

  1. Flip the lever upwards
  2. Place on the surface you wish it to be suctioned on to
  3. Press down hard on the button (next to the lever) and then push the lever downwards whilst  still pushing the button at the same time

HEAD STRAP

This might not look particularly flattering but I can imagine situations where this would be very handy, like a music concert, swimming, mountain climbing, whilst sunbathing (to catch any weirdos that approach when they think you’re not looking) etc…..

I was surprised at how comfortable this felt on my head – not tight or irritating, and it is fully adjustable to suit your head. The strap also has a strip of sticky type jelly running around the inside which clings to the skin to help stop it from sliding.

TIGHT FLAT CLIP

This clip could also work on a bag strap, belt or clothing quite easily with a very strong grip.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The velcro strap did a good job of attaching itself to this bag strap.

All in all this is a very good bundle, great value for money and a great starting pack for building your action camera equipment, I would certainly recommend it as a starter kit or back up kit.

FLOATING HANDLE

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Just a couple of criticisms.  There is no rubber grip on the plastic so easy to slide out of a wet hand; additionally, there is nothing at the end of the flotation handle to thread the blue wrist strap through!! If this slips from your grasp it could float out to sea!!

Lavolta Storage Carry Hard Case Travel Bag for GoPro Camera HD Hero 960 1 2 3

I bought the Lavolta hard case to store my action camera (LYNEC AC65 Sports Action Camera 1080P HD which I will review separately once I’ve given it a good test run) and other small photography bits and pieces like chargers, to take away on holiday.

I’ll be squeezing various items into slots  – regardless of the shape, as the foam is flexible.

Although the case is relatively hard, it does have some flexible ‘give’, it isn’t hard like acrylic/plastic so I’ll be keeping this in my hand luggage. It might have been more protective to have foam in the over as well as the base.

At £9.90 it seemed very reasonably priced.

Most of the foam is glued into the case, expert for the filler area – this is handy as you can use spare pieces of foam to custom separate some of your smaller pieces.

The case is great for a modest collection of less bulky accessories, given that it is a slim case.

Lavolta hard case also looks rather smart and will be easy to slide into your bag – it has no handles or straps, but to be honest, it isn’t something I plan to be carrying around with me every day, it is really more of a travel carry case, and is very lightweight for this reason.

  • Compatible Brand:For GoPro
  • Compatible Model:HD HERO; HD HERO 960; HD HERO2; HD HERO3; HD HERO3+
  • Brand:Lavolta
  • Type:Hard/Pro Cases
  • Features:Accessory compartments; Padded; Shock-absorbing foam
  • Material:Polyester; Nylon
  • Colour:Black
  • External Dimensions:31.5x21x6.5 cm
  • Weight:0.4 kg

Overall, I’m happy with this case for the price, and look forward to using it soon.
